(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet briefed Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung on the latest developments in the Cambodia–Thailand border dispute, reaffirming Cambodia’s commitment to resolving the issue peacefully in accordance with international law.
Speaking on Friday (Oct. 9) during bilateral talks with his Vietnamese counterpart at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet reiterated Cambodia’s position that border disputes must be settled through peaceful means, based on international law and relevant conventions, treaties and existing agreements between the countries concerned.
Beyond the border issue, the two prime ministers expressed satisfaction with the progress of Cambodia–Viet Nam relations and agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including politics, national defence, security, trade, investment, infrastructure connectivity and people-to-people exchanges, particularly between neighbouring border provinces.
Both leaders also highlighted the significance of 2027, which will mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Viet Nam and be designated the Cambodia–Viet Nam Friendship Year.
They agreed to encourage relevant ministries, institutions and youth organisations in both countries to jointly organise activities commemorating the milestone and further strengthening bilateral friendship.
Following the talks, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and Prime Minister Le Minh Hung jointly presided over the signing of six cooperation documents aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.
