(Battambang): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to pursuing diplomatic and international legal avenues to reclaim disputed border areas, stressing that losing physical control does not mean legally ceding territory.

Speaking on Thursday (Oct. 8) at a graduation ceremony at the University of Management and Economics in Battambang, the premier said Cambodia has never signed any agreement surrendering its territorial claims.

“Losing control of certain locations does not mean we have ceded them to anyone,” Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said, maintaining that Cambodia continues to assert its rights under historical treaties and existing agreements.

He cited the 1907 Franco-Siamese Treaty and Cambodia’s historical recovery of Battambang, Siem Reap and Sisophon as examples of territorial disputes resolved through diplomacy.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also acknowledged that Cambodia had lost control of certain locations during recent border clashes but reaffirmed that the government would continue pursuing its claims through peaceful diplomatic and legal mechanisms.
