(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet outlined six key recommendations to strengthen cooperation among ASEAN veterans’ associations, improve veterans’ welfare and promote lasting peace across the region.

The premier spoke on Monday (Oct. 5) while presiding over the 25th General Assembly of the Veterans Confederation of ASEAN Countries (VECONAC) at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh.

The premier outlined six priorities for VECONAC and its member associations:

First, continue to jointly preserve and promote the value of peace as the foundation for regional development and prosperity.

Second, strengthen solidarity, friendship and cooperation among veterans’ associations across ASEAN.

Third, place the improvement of veterans’ quality of life and well-being at the heart of regional cooperation.

Fourth, enhance the role of veterans as peace educators and as bridges connecting the past, present and future.

Fifth, strengthen VECONAC to become more active, resilient and responsive to the evolving regional landscape.

Sixth, preserve and promote the VECONAC spirit as a unifying force within the ASEAN Community.

Through these recommendations, Samdech Thipadei underscored the importance of translating veterans’ experiences and sacrifices into stronger regional solidarity, improved welfare and a lasting culture of peace across ASEAN.
