(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet encouraged students not to be discouraged by academic setbacks, saying failure in school can provide valuable lessons for overcoming challenges in life.
The premier spoke on Friday (Oct. 2) during a graduation ceremony for 2,573 graduates of Asia Euro University in Phnom Penh.
Samdech Thipadei said education should go beyond academic knowledge and professional skills by also developing character, resilience and perseverance.
“Learning in school is also a lesson for life,” Samdech Thipadei said.
He underlined that education is not simply about acquiring knowledge or earning a degree. The learning process also teaches students how to conduct research, overcome challenges, cope with failure and recover from setbacks.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also underscored the importance of balancing professional competence with good character, warning that skills without integrity can lead to the misuse of knowledge, while good character without sufficient skills can limit a person’s ability to contribute effectively to society.
