(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said military service not only strengthens national defence but also develops young people with skills and discipline that can benefit society.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony for 2,573 Asia Euro University graduates, the premier said military training builds discipline, responsibility, leadership and practical skills.
“For Cambodia, we invest in human resources in the military, plant them in the military, but they bear fruit in society,” he said.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also underscored the importance of responsibility and personal conduct in the workplace, saying these qualities can contribute to success in both professional and social life.
Under the Military Service Law, Cambodian men aged 18-25 are required to serve for 24 months, while women may serve voluntarily. After completing service, conscripts become reserve personnel until age 45.
Conscripts will receive a monthly allowance of 400,000 riel, along with food, uniforms, training and other benefits.
