(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said nearly 3,000 people registered on the first day of Cambodia’s military service registration.
The premier spoke on Friday (Oct. 2) during a graduation ceremony for 2,573 graduates of Asia Euro University in Phnom Penh.
Samdech Thipadei said the initial registration is being conducted as a pilot phase to determine the appropriate scale of recruitment.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also described 2026 as a historic year for implementing the Military Service Law, saying military service will also help young people develop discipline, teamwork, responsibility and practical skills.
Under the law, promulgated on May 23, Cambodian men aged 18-25 are required to serve for 24 months, while women may serve voluntarily.
Application forms are being distributed from October 1-9, with applications accepted from October 10-15.
