(Pursat): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said border conflicts and closures should serve as important lessons for Cambodia to strengthen its national resilience, domestic capacity and economic diversification.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Oct. 1) during the inauguration ceremony of the official use of National Road No. 10 in Pursat province.

“Border conflicts and border closures are opportunities for us to assess and strengthen ourselves, diversify the economy, and learn from this experience so that it does not happen again in the future,” Samdech Thipadei said.

He added that the conflict should be viewed not merely as a test, but as a lesson from which Cambodia can strengthen its national defence capabilities and preparedness for future challenges.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also drew lessons from recent flooding, calling for stronger water management systems to retain excess water during the rainy season for use during periods of drought.

He further urged authorities and residents in border areas to plant more trees as part of efforts to strengthen environmental protection in those communities.
