(Phnom Penh): The United Kingdom (UK) reaffirmed the importance of international cooperation in tackling online scams, fraud, and transnational organised crime, stressing that no government can address the global challenge alone, according to the British Embassy in Cambodia.

At Cambodia’s International Conference on Combating Online Scams (ICCOS) in Phnom Penh on Wednesday morning (Sep. 23), Lord Hanson, Minister of State at the UK Home Office, highlighted the importance of cooperation among governments, law enforcement agencies, international organisations, journalists, and civil society groups in identifying criminal networks and supporting victims.

“Online scams are a global challenge that no government can tackle alone. And even beyond government, journalists, civil society groups and international organisations play an essential role in identifying criminal networks and supporting victims,” the embassy said.

Lord Hanson welcomed Cambodia’s leadership in bringing together governments, law enforcement agencies and international partners to address the growing global threat posed by online scams, fraud and transnational organised crime.

The UK reaffirmed the importance of working together to disrupt criminal networks, protect vulnerable people and deliver practical outcomes through strengthened UK-Cambodia cooperation.

The conference underscored a shared commitment to turning international dialogue into practical action, helping make communities safer and ensuring criminal networks have fewer places to hide.
