(Phnom Penh): Cambodia’s Ministry of Information and Ministry of Post and Telecommunications on Monday (Sep. 21) officially launched websites for information departments across the country’s 25 capital and provinces, aimed at strengthening local news dissemination and expanding public access to official information through digital platforms.

The launch ceremony, held at the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, was presided over by Chea Vandeth, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, and Neth Pheaktra, Minister of Information.

Minister Neth Pheaktra said the initiative reflects close cooperation between the two ministries in harnessing digital technology to deliver official information to the public more quickly, widely and reliably.

“This achievement is the result of strong commitment, close cooperation and joint efforts between the Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, guided by one spirit, one goal and one direction: harnessing digital technology to deliver information to the public more quickly, more widely, more effectively and with greater reliability,” he said.

The minister added that the cooperation has helped establish an integrated information infrastructure with harmonised technology standards, more efficient management systems and stronger digital security.

He said the system also integrates information from sub-national administrations into the national information network, helping make information flows more coordinated and systematic while ensuring that official sources are clearly identified.

“This represents the development of a digital government information system that not only provides information to the public but also creates a new channel of communication between state institutions and citizens,” Neth Pheaktra said.

To date, the websites of information departments across all 25 capital and provinces have published more than 14,000 news articles and digital content pieces, attracting a combined total of over 100,000 visitors.

The platforms will provide timely updates on local activities, achievements and key developments, while making official information from sub-national administrations more accessible to the public.

The initiative forms part of Cambodia’s broader efforts to modernise its information system through digital technology, improving the collection, management and dissemination of official information nationwide.
