(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn on Monday (Sep. 21) chaired the seventh meeting of the National Committee responsible for organising the 20th Francophonie Summit, as Cambodia steps up preparations to host the major international gathering later this year.

The summit is scheduled to take place in Phnom Penh on 15-16 November 2026, providing a platform for dialogue, exchange of views and practical solutions to global challenges related to peace and sustainable development.

Cambodia and France have expressed their shared commitment to making the summit a landmark event for the Asia-Pacific region, 29 years after a Francophonie Summit was last hosted in the region.

The Royal Government has been intensifying preparations through a series of inter-ministerial and institutional coordination meetings covering logistics, protocol, security and related arrangements.

On September 9, Eat Seyla chaired a preparatory meeting for the summit’s first rehearsal, which is scheduled for September 26 as part of efforts to ensure smooth organisation of the high-level event.

Preparations are also underway for two major side events, the Village Francophone and FrancoTech, which are expected to showcase Cambodia’s arts, culture, tourism and economic potential to international delegates and visitors.

The two events were among the key preparations discussed during an inter-ministerial and inter-institutional meeting held on June 18.

Hosting the 20th Francophonie Summit will provide Cambodia with an opportunity to strengthen its international engagement while showcasing the Kingdom’s cultural heritage, tourism potential and economic opportunities to the Francophone community.
