(Svay Rieng): A group of 79 local and international journalists representing 39 media organisations, including Fresh News, on Monday afternoon (Sep. 21) visited the Golden Galaxy Casino in Bavet city, where Cambodian authorities previously raided online scam operations.

Located in Bavet commune, Bavet city, Svay Rieng province, the premises are owned by Chinese national Hong Xingjie and were reportedly subleased to two Vietnamese nationals, Le Van Nguyen and Nguyen Van Vinh, who used the site to conduct online scam activities.

Cambodian authorities raided the premises on 7 April 2026, seizing more than 600 computers and mobile phones, along with other equipment used in the operations. Authorities also arrested three ringleaders, who were sent to court and subsequently placed in pre-trial detention.

A total of 275 foreign nationals were found at the site, including 182 Vietnamese, 60 Bangladeshis, 25 Chinese and eight South Koreans. The foreign nationals were subsequently transferred to the General Department of Immigration for deportation from Cambodia.
