(Phnom Penh): Georgia’s newly appointed Ambassador to Cambodia Irakli Asashvili pledged to deepen bilateral relations and expand cooperation between the two countries during a courtesy call on Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State, on Thursday afternoon (Sep. 17) at the Senate’s Solidarity Palace.

According to Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith, on behalf of the king, Samdech Techo welcomed Irakli Asashvili’s appointment and expressed hope that his tenure would further strengthen friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between Cambodia and Georgia.

For his part, Irakli Asashvili reaffirmed his commitment to advancing bilateral relations, noting the progress already made in cooperation between the two countries. He also expressed his respect for Samdech Techo’s leadership experience, which he said he had learned about through historical documents and media reports.

Samdech Techo welcomed the ambassador’s commitment, noting that despite the geographical distance between Cambodia and Georgia, there remains considerable scope for the two countries to strengthen ties and pursue mutually beneficial cooperation.

He encouraged the governments and relevant institutions of both countries to maintain dialogue and identify priority areas with potential for expanded cooperation.

During the meeting, the acting head of state also recalled his previous visit to Georgia and expressed hope that friendship and cooperation between the two countries would continue to deepen and flourish.
