(Kampong Chhnang): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced that Cambodia currently has 15 vehicle assembly and manufacturing plants: 10 are operational, two are nearing production, and three are under construction.

Speaking at the inauguration of a GAC vehicle assembly plant in Kampong Chhnang province on Thursday (Sep. 17), Samdech Thipadei said total investment in the sector has reached about USD 248 million. This comprises 28 per cent domestic and 72 per cent foreign investment, and has created 2,774 skilled jobs.

Cambodia currently has the capacity to produce around 35,000 vehicles annually, he said, urging authorities to carefully consider additional investment approvals based on actual domestic market demand.

The prime minister also underlined that Cambodia should focus not only on attracting new factories but also on ensuring that existing plants remain sustainable, competitive, and able to expand their markets.

The 10 operational plants are run by BYD, Camko Motor Hyundai, CXD Industry, DAEHAN AUTO (CAMBODIA), GTV Motor, Hgb Motors Assembly, K (CAMBODIA), RMA Automotive (Cambodia), TH Automotive Manufacturing, and Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing Cambodia.
