(Kampong Chnang): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said Cambodia had 3,357 factories registered with the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation as of July 2026, with total investment exceeding USD 28 billion.

Speaking at the inauguration of a GAC vehicle assembly plant operated by THAM in Kampong Chhnang province on Thursday (Sep. 17), Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said the manufacturing sector employs approximately 1.36 million workers, including more than 950,000 women, who account for 70.15 per cent of the workforce.

Investment in the sector increased by more than USD 6 billion, or 28.82 per cent, compared with the same period last year. Domestic investment accounted for more than USD 4.3 billion, equivalent to 15.46 per cent of the total.

Samdech Thipadei highlighted Cambodia’s long-term economic transformation, noting that the industrial sector’s contribution to GDP rose from approximately 12.6 per cent in 1993 to 43.2 per cent in 2025, reflecting the kingdom’s shift from an agriculture-dependent economy towards a more diversified industrial base.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet called for continued cooperation among relevant institutions to improve Cambodia's investment and business environment, while noting that investments such as vehicle assembly create jobs and transfer automotive skills to Cambodian workers.
