(Beijing): Three Cambodian media outlets, Fresh News, The Phnom Penh Post, and Khmer Times, are participating in the Media Training Programme for ASEAN, organised by China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 14 to 29 September 2026.

The English-language programme brings together 21 journalists from nine countries to promote media exchanges and strengthen cooperation between China and ASEAN.

During the programme, participating journalists will travel to Beijing, Guangxi, and Fujian, visiting government institutions, media organisations, educational institutions, and new energy companies. The programme also includes participation in the 23rd China-ASEAN Expo.

In Guangxi, the programme includes a visit to the Guangxi Ethnic Music Museum on the Nanhu campus of Guangxi Arts University in Nanning. Established in June 2015, the museum collects, preserves and displays musical instruments from ethnic groups across the region, and supports research, performance, instrument-making, restoration and digital documentation.

The museum has expressed interest in expanding formal cooperation with Cambodia's Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts on research and cultural exchange involving Khmer musical traditions.

Fresh News' participation provides an opportunity to exchange professional experience with journalists from ASEAN and China while gaining deeper insight into China's development, media landscape, and cooperation with ASEAN.

The programme contributes to strengthening people-to-people and media-to-media exchanges, further supporting closer cooperation and mutual understanding between Cambodia, ASEAN, and China, building on momentum from the 2024 Cambodia-China People-to-People Exchange Year.
