(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced that the former Pochentong Airport will be transformed into a major public recreational space named “Pochentong Park,” speaking at the inauguration of Luang Me Hospital on Wednesday (Sep. 16).

The premier said that the redevelopment will preserve the airport’s historic terminal and control tower, while adding trees and facilities for walking, jogging, cycling, exercise and public events.

He added that the site could also host marathons, exhibitions and concerts, with cafés, parking and other services potentially developed through private-sector leases.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei said the land will remain state-owned, with the project aimed at preserving Pochentong’s historic identity while creating a new recreational destination for Phnom Penh residents.
