(Xiamen): Cambodia's Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources Management Project secured nearly USD 1 billion in financing following the signing of a financing agreement between the Export-Import Bank of China (China Exim Bank) and the Funan Techo Coastal-Inland Waterways Company.
Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), witnessed the signing ceremony in Xiamen, China, on Thursday (Sep. 9) during the “Global Wisdom, Mutual Empowerment: International Investment & Cooperation Exchange” event.
Sun Chanthol expressed gratitude to the governments of Cambodia and China, China Exim Bank, China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), and other partners for their support.
He described the Funan Techo project as a "game changer" for Cambodia, saying the river-to-sea waterway will reduce transport costs, strengthen logistics competitiveness and create a new economic corridor for industrial zones, logistics centres, agro-processing, satellite cities and tourism.
On the occasion, the deputy prime minister called on international investors to explore opportunities in Cambodia, reaffirming the Royal Government’s readiness to facilitate sustainable investment and promote shared growth.
