(Phnom Penh): The British Embassy Phnom Penh hosted on Friday (Sep. 4) a pre-departure reception at the British Ambassador's Residence to honour 9 Cambodians who have been awarded Chevening Scholarships to pursue one-year postgraduate studies in the UK, as well as 3 Cambodian recipient of the ASEAN-UK: Women in STEM Scholarships, who will undertake a STEM-focused master's degree during the 2026/2027 academic year.

Over 60 distinguished guests from Cambodian's Ministry of Education, sponsors, Chevening alumni, and the newly awarded Chevening scholars, scholar's parents were joining the Embassy to celebrate the occasion.

This year, 12 outstanding Cambodian students will study at a range of UK universities in subjects that contribute to Cambodia's future development. Their fields of study include Public Health, Education, Cyber Security, User Experience Design, Global Social Development, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Sustainability, Environmental Policy, Media and Communication for Development, and Financial Technology (FinTech).

Dominic Williams, British Ambassador to Cambodia said, "Although this is a happy evening for our new Chevening scholars, I am a little bit sad because this is the last Chevening farewell I will host as British Ambassador to Cambodia. Four years ago, the Chevening farewell was the first event my wife and I hosted in the British residence. Since then, Chevening scholars and alumni have been an important part of our life we have met up lots of times in Cambodia and the UK, I have learnt Khmer slang from some of our scholars and we have even joined the weddings of some of our alumni! We will truly miss the Cambodian Chevening community."
