(Phnom Penh): Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk will depart Phnom Penh for Beijing on Tuesday (Sep. 1) for a routine medical checkup.

According to an official royal message, during the king’s absence, Senate President Hun Sen will serve as acting head of state.

The king and queen mother regularly travel to China for medical checkups, where they have traditionally been received with warm hospitality by senior Chinese leaders.
