(Phnom Penh): Cambodia and Russia reaffirmed their longstanding friendship and commitment to strengthening political and economic cooperation, including in trade, investment, education, connectivity, tourism and defence, according to a press release seen by Fresh News on Wednesday (Aug. 26).

The commitment was made during the Third Bilateral Political Consultations on August 24, co-chaired by Cambodian Secretary of State Meas Kim Heng and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko.

Both sides welcomed activities marking the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations and expressed satisfaction with close coordination through the United Nations, ASEAN-Russia relations, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

They also exchanged views on regional and international issues, including the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, and reaffirmed their commitment to regional and global peace, stability, and development.

Cambodia welcomed a high-level Russian delegation to the 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers' Conference, scheduled for August 26-28 in Phnom Penh.

During his visit, Rudenko also met with Cambodian leaders, including Senate President Hun Sen, Prime Minister Hun Manet and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn.

The consultations concluded with both sides agreeing to hold the next round in Moscow on a mutually convenient date.
