(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet urged Cambodians, particularly social media content creators, not to sacrifice their dignity, cultural values, or national identity in pursuit of online views, shares, and financial gain.
Speaking at the 11th nationwide gathering with Achar and Acharini on Wednesday (Aug. 19), the prime minister warned against crossing the “red line” of social morality simply to attract attention on digital platforms.
While acknowledging that technological advancement is inevitable, the prime minister stressed that individuals remain responsible for how they use technology and should prioritise personal integrity and self-worth over online popularity.
"Even if Facebook pays a lot, we must not do such things. Self-worth comes first," he said, calling on content creators to consider whether their online activities undermine traditional Cambodian values and social morality.
He noted that preserving social morality requires collective responsibility across families, schools, and pagodas, calling on religious leaders to continue educating and guiding the public as society adapts to rapid technological change and increasingly competitive modern life.
