(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet considered the appointment of Kem Monovithya, daughter of former opposition leader Kem Sokha, as a special envoy to the prime minister, as a testament to national unity and collective service to Cambodia.

Speaking at the 11th Nationwide Gathering with lay officiants (Achar and Acharini) at the National Institute of Education on Wednesday (Aug. 19), the prime minister underlined that despite different political backgrounds, Monovithya’s international networks and willingness to contribute can effectively advance national interests, such as investment and border matters.

Samdech Thipadei considered the appointment as an embodiment of national reconciliation and a culture of dialogue, emphasising that political divisions should not bar capable individuals from working toward the country's development.

"Those who wish to contribute to Cambodia are welcome regardless of their political affiliation," he stated, calling for genuine sincerity in cross-party dialogue.

According to a Royal Decree dated 17 August 2026, Kem Monovithya was appointed Special Envoy to Prime Minister Hun Manet, with a rank equivalent to minister.
