(Phnom Penh): Bou Meng, one of the few known survivors of the Khmer Rouge's notorious S-21 detention centre, died at his home in Kandal Province on Friday night (Aug. 14) at the age of 85, according to Hang Nisay, Director of the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum.
In the decades following the fall of the Khmer Rouge, Bou Meng became an important voice in preserving the memory of the regime's atrocities and advocating for truth and justice for its victims.
He later testified before the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) in Case 001 against Kaing Guek Eav, alias "Duch" (1942-2020), the former chairman and secretary of the S-21 Security Centre in Phnom Penh.
