(Phnom Penh): The United States (US) reaffirmed its support for Cambodia's efforts to combat transnational crime and online scam networks, pledging continued technical assistance and stronger law enforcement cooperation.

The US Embassy in Phnom Penh wrote on its social media on Thursday (Aug. 13).

Chargé d'Affaires Aleks Zittle met Minister of Justice Koeut Rith to discuss Cambodia’s implementation of the Law on Combating Online Scams. They underscored the importance of investigating and prosecuting the masterminds behind online scams and those who enable these operations to flourish.

During the meeting, the two sides also discussed the extensive technical assistance the US is providing to help Cambodia counter the threat posed by transnational criminal groups operating online scam centres in Cambodia.

The United States reaffirmed its commitment to continuing cooperation with Cambodia to strengthen law enforcement efforts and protect US citizens and others from transnational online scam networks.
