(Phnom Penh): Chhay Sinarith, Senior Minister in Charge of Special Missions and Chairman of the Secretariat of the Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS), on 28 July 2026, received a courtesy call from Arif Havas Oegroseno, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
The two sides held in-depth discussions on bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, Chhay Sinarith highly praised the strong relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Indonesia, particularly in the fight against technology-based scams.
He reaffirmed the Royal Government of Cambodia's commitment to eradicating this form of crime through the establishment of the Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS) and the introduction of relevant legislation. These measures have contributed effectively to dismantling criminal networks.
To further strengthen these efforts, Cambodia will host the International Conference on Combating Online Scams in Phnom Penh on 23-24 September 2026.
Cambodia invited Indonesia to participate, support the initiative, and share its experience.
In response, Arif Havas Oegroseno expressed appreciation to Cambodia for its cooperation in facilitating the repatriation of Indonesian nationals involved in scam-related activities.
The Indonesian vice minister of foreign affairs commended Cambodia's efforts, operational achievements, and the enactment of new legislation, describing them as a significant milestone.
He affirmed that Indonesia stands ready to support Cambodia by strengthening the capacity of law enforcement officials and expanding bilateral cooperation.
Indonesia also expressed its full support for Cambodia's hosting of the international conference, recognising it as a reflection of Cambodia's determination to transform itself from a victim country into a regional leader in combating technology-based scams.
In conclusion, both sides pledged to further enhance cooperation through information sharing and specialised training for law enforcement personnel to combat transnational technology-based scam crimes more effectively.
