(Hanoi): Cambodian National Assembly President Khuon Sudary and Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties during talks in Hanoi on Tuesday (Jul. 28).

The two leaders exchanged views on strengthening parliamentary diplomacy, promoting people-to-people exchanges, and expanding cooperation in trade, investment, healthcare, tourism, education, science and technology, innovation, and other priority sectors to advance people-centred development and the common interests of both countries.

Both leaders agreed to expand cooperation between their legislatures, strengthen business links, particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and work toward increasing bilateral trade to USD 20 billion.

During the meeting, Samdech Khuon Sudary proposed updating the 2022 Memorandum of Understanding between the two National Assemblies and expanding cooperation in healthcare, proposals welcomed by the Vietnamese side.

She also encouraged greater Vietnamese investment and tourism in Cambodia and closer exchanges between businesses, particularly SMEs, while seeking Viet Nam's continued support for the modernization of Cambodia's National Assembly as a digital parliament.

The two leaders highlighted the importance of stronger economic connectivity, transport links, and parliamentary cooperation to support sustainable development, regional resilience, and ASEAN unity.

On the occasion, both sides also reaffirmed cooperation on national defence, security, and efforts to combat cybercrime and online fraud, while expressing confidence that closer ties would deliver long-term benefits for both countries and their people.
