(Phnom Penh): The Preah Srey Içanavarman Museum (Sosoro) launched a new temporary exhibition, "A Lexical Survey: When Khmer Meets French," exploring the linguistic exchange between the Khmer and French languages.
According to the museum, the Khmer language has borrowed words from many languages throughout its history while also contributing words to other languages. French is now regarded as one of the most influential sources of loanwords in modern Khmer.
The exhibition traces the evolution of this linguistic relationship, offering visitors insight into how Khmer and French have shaped one another through centuries of cultural and historical interaction.
The Sosoro Museum, housed in the former Indochina Bank building at the corner of Streets 13 and 106 in Phnom Penh, is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is free.
