(Phnom Penh): Stefan Anton Messerer, Outgoing German Ambassador to Cambodia, affirmed Cambodia as a secure tourist destination, underscoring the nation's increasing capacity to attract a larger volume of international visitors.

His remarks were made on Tuesday (July. 14) during his farewell courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet at the Peace Palace.

During the meeting, Ambassador Messerer conveyed his profound satisfaction with the consistent advancement in Germany-Cambodia bilateral relations and cooperation.

He extended his gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for its unwavering support and constructive collaboration throughout his tenure.

The ambassador lauded the robust cooperation between the two nations across diverse sectors, notably their political relations, which are distinguished by regular high-level exchanges.

He observed that Germany and Cambodia maintain transparent and candid dialogue, and that bilateral ties continue to fortify.

He further stressed that both countries possess substantial untapped potential to broaden cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, agro-industry, and particularly tourism, reiterating that Cambodia offers a secure environment for tourists.

In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet commended Ambassador Messerer for his proactive diplomatic endeavors in strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and Germany.

He acknowledged the positive trajectory of bilateral relations, especially in education and human resource development, and expressed confidence that cooperation in these domains would continue to deepen.

The prime minister noted that Cambodia and Germany have considerable prospects to expand trade and economic cooperation, particularly through fostering more robust partnerships between the private sectors of both countries.

Regarding agriculture and agro-industry, Prime Minister Hun Manet underscored Cambodia's significant potential for enhanced collaboration with Germany.

He highlighted the Royal Government's key policies and initiatives to support the sector, with particular emphasis on promoting the processing of strategic agricultural products, including cashew nuts, paddy, and rice, to augment exports to international markets.

During the meeting, Samdech Thipadei also briefed thr outgoing ambassador on the recent developments of Cambodia-Thailand border situation.

He reaffirmed Cambodia's steadfast commitment to resolving border issues peacefully, in accordance with international law, existing conventions, treaties, and bilateral agreements.

Ambassador Messerer reiterated Germany's support for the peaceful resolution of border disputes in adherence to international law.
