(Phnom Penh): Cambodia's efforts to resolve its border dispute with Thailand through peaceful means and international law have gained further international support.

Meeting in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on 10-11 July 2026, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF) called on Thailand to respect Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and refrain from unilateral actions that could escalate tensions.

Acting on a recommendation from its Political Committee, the APF expressed concern over reported activities in Thai-controlled border areas, including the construction of civilian and military infrastructure, religious ceremonies at cultural sites, and land allocation initiatives.

The assembly also voiced deep regret over civilian suffering and damage to cultural heritage, warning that such actions could undermine lasting peace and reconciliation.

The APF urged Thailand to respect the ceasefire and implement the commitments outlined in the joint statement signed by the prime ministers of Cambodia and Thailand in Kuala Lumpur on 26 October 2025.

Representing more than 99 member parliaments and organisations, the APF also called for an immediate de-escalation of tensions, continued dialogue, and the withdrawal of armed forces from disputed areas.

Reaffirming its support for a peaceful settlement, the APF encouraged both sides to use existing bilateral mechanisms, particularly the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), while promoting dialogue, respect for international law, and the normalisation of relations based on mutual recognition of sovereignty, territorial integrity, the inviolability of borders, and border demarcation in line with international legal frameworks.
