(Phnom Penh): Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin welcomed the launch of a new cross-border transit route that will enable Cambodian agricultural products to reach China more quickly via Laos.
“Glad to hear that a new Cambodia-Laos transshipment route bound for China officially opened on June 22. It reduces transportation time and enables Chinese consumers to enjoy fresher Cambodian agricultural products including bananas, mangoes, rice, Pailin longan, cassava starch, and durians. It is a boon for China-Cambodia agricultural trade and regional economic integration,” the ambassador wrote on his social media on 24 June 2026.
The new transit route was officially launched on 22 June following extensive negotiations between Cambodia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and Laos’ Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
The agreement establishes a new transport corridor and streamlines transit procedures for six Cambodian agricultural exports to the Chinese market: bananas, mangoes, rice, Pailin longan, cassava starch, and durians.
The route is expected to significantly reduce transportation time, improve export efficiency, lower logistical barriers, and expand market access for Cambodian farmers and agribusinesses, allowing fresh produce to reach Chinese consumers in as little as one week.
