(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call from Ving Huor, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and a delegation from the Cambodia Cement Manufacturing Association (CCMA) at the Peace Palace on Tuesday morning (Jun. 23).
During the meeting, the chairman respectfully briefed Samdech Thipadei on the operations and business activities of the CCMA.
He highlighted that the association’s member companies have invested approximately USD 1.2 billion, with a combined production capacity of around 12 million tonnes of cement per year.
The industry has generated employment for 2,119 staff and workers, including 1,900 Cambodian nationals, representing approximately 90 per cent of the workforce.
The chairman added that CCMA members supply between 8 and 9 million tonnes of cement annually to the domestic market, utilising around 85 per cent locally sourced raw materials in their production processes, thereby helping to maintain the industry's competitiveness.
Beyond their business operations, CCMA actively contributes to community development through humanitarian and social initiatives, including the construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure, schools, and health centres, as well as the installation of public street lighting.
In response, Samdech Thipadei commended the CCMA for its achievements in ensuring a stable supply of cement to the domestic market.
He also welcomed the spirit of solidarity and unity among association members, noting that it serves as an important foundation for maintaining production capacity, quality, and product standards, while enhancing the industry's competitiveness.
Samdech Thipadei further underscored the Royal Government’s commitment to introducing necessary policies and mechanisms to support the success of both domestic and foreign companies investing in Cambodia.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also confirmed that the Royal Government would extend the tax incentives currently provided to domestic cement manufacturers for an additional two years, until the end of 2028. He emphasised that the success of existing businesses in Cambodia serves as one of the strongest endorsements for attracting new investment to the country.
Additionally, Samdech Thipadei recommended that CCMA, companies, factories, and private enterprises prioritise product quality and reasonable pricing in order to strengthen competitiveness and earn the confidence and continued support of consumers.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet encouraged CCMA to continue reviewing and strengthening its production chain in order to further enhance the supply of cement to the domestic market.
Before concluding the meeting, Samdech Thipadei reaffirmed the Royal Government’s commitment to continuing to assist and support the success of the private sector, reiterating that the private sector is a key partner of the Royal Government in promoting Cambodia’s socio-economic development.
He also highly valued the confidence demonstrated by both domestic and foreign investors through their continued investment and expansion of operations in Cambodia.
