(Phnom Penh): The Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with the Cambodian Red Cross Kampong Speu Branch, conducted a first aid training program for members of the Rolak Kang Cheung Natural Protected Area Community to strengthen emergency response capacity and improve tourist safety at the Knong Psar Green Destination.
The training was held at Knong Psar Green Destination in Tang Bampong Village, Ta Sal Commune, Oral District, Kampong Speu Province, under the presidency of Hav Piseth, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Environment.
The program was led by Chea Tith, Deputy Director of the Kampong Speu Provincial Department of Environment, together with officials from the Community Development Office, the Environmental Knowledge and Information Office, and the Cardamom Mountains National Park Office.
Approximately 40 participants, including Ministry of Environment officials, park rangers, local authorities, and community members, attended the training.
The initiative was organized in response to the growing number of visitors to the Knong Psar Green Destination and aimed to equip local communities with practical skills to respond effectively to emergencies and accidents that may occur in the area.
Training topics included the recovery position for unconscious casualties, first aid for snakebite victims, fracture management, bleeding control, and emergency response to choking and airway obstruction.
Officials said strengthening community first aid capacity is essential to ensuring the safety and well-being of tourists and local residents while supporting the sustainable development of nature-based tourism in the area.
The Ministry of Environment said the training reflects its continued commitment to improving visitor safety, enhancing community participation, and promoting high-quality ecotourism services in Cambodia’s protected areas.
Knong Psar, located within the Cardamom Mountains landscape, has become an increasingly popular ecotourism destination, attracting visitors with its natural scenery, biodiversity, and community-based tourism experiences.
The ministry has been working closely with local communities to improve tourism services and create sustainable livelihood opportunities while conserving natural resources.
