(UNESCO): Cambodia has been elected as a member of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage for the 2026-2030 term during the 11th General Assembly of the States Parties to the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage on Wednesday (Jun. 17).

The meeting, held at UNESCO Headquarters on 17-18 June 2026, brought together representatives from 185 states parties. Cambodia secured the support of member states and was elected to serve on the committee responsible for promoting and safeguarding intangible cultural heritage worldwide.

Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts and Chairperson of the Cambodian National Commission for UNESCO, led the Cambodian delegation attending the assembly. The delegation also included Long Kosal, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Cambodia to UNESCO, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, and the Cambodian National Commission for UNESCO.

Cambodia's election reflects international recognition of Cambodia's continued commitment to preserving and promoting intangible cultural heritage, while enhancing its role in UNESCO's international cultural cooperation.
