(Phnom Penh): Cambodian National Assembly declared its full support for the actions taken by the Royal Government of Cambodia, led by Prime Minister Hun Manet, in officially notifying the government of Thailand and the United Nations Secretary General to initiate the compulsory conciliation procedure under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) to resolve the Overlapping Claims Area, according to the National Assembly’s statement seen by Fresh News on Tuesday (Jun. 2).
This decision was made after the Thai government announced its withdrawal from the 2001 Memorandum of Understanding, commonly known as the 2001 MoU, which had served as the sole bilateral mechanism in place for over 25 years.
