(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a farewell call from Pedro Zwahlen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Swiss Confederation to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and his colleagues at the Peace Palace on Tuesday (May 26), on the occasion of the completion of his diplomatic mission in Cambodia.
During the meeting, the ambassador commended Cambodia’s rapid development and expressed his pleasure and pride in fulfilling his diplomatic mission in Cambodia, noting that his tenure had provided him with valuable experience and a deeper understanding of Cambodia’s rich history, cultural heritage, and civilisation.
He highly valued the progress of bilateral relations and cooperation and highlighted the Swiss Government’s continued support for Cambodia’s socio-economic development, particularly its support for the Kantha Bopha Hospital.
In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet highly appreciated the ambassador’s active role and significant contributions to strengthening and expanding bilateral relations and cooperation during his diplomatic mandate in Cambodia.
Samdech Thipadei also expressed deep gratitude to the Swiss Government and people for their continued support for Cambodia’s socio-economic development, especially the Kantha Bopha Hospital.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei underlined that the Royal Government of Cambodia places high priority on strengthening the healthcare sector and public welfare, viewing them as essential for the nation.
In addition, he expressed satisfaction with the excellent progress of bilateral relations and cooperation, noting that Cambodia and Switzerland possess considerable potential to further strengthen and expand cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy, investment, trade, and vocational training.
During the meeting, Samdech Thipadei also briefed the ambassador on recent developments regarding the Cambodia–Thailand border situation. He reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving the border issue peacefully, based on international law and in accordance with existing conventions, treaties, and agreements between Cambodia and Thailand.
The ambassador affirmed that the Swiss Government supports the continued implementation of the ceasefire by both sides and the peaceful resolution of the border issue in compliance with international law and the rules-based international order.
