(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet strictly ordered law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to combat technology-based fraud, specifically online scams, until these issues are fully resolved.
He spoke during a Cabinet meeting on Friday (May 22).
He emphasised the importance of this matter and its impact on the nation's reputation.
In a press release detailing the Cabinet meeting's outcomes, the prime minister commended local authorities and the National Police for their significant achievements in dismantling online scam networks. Despite these achievements, certain challenges remain and must be addressed diligently.
Furthermore, the prime minister urged relevant ministries and institutions, particularly municipal and provincial administrations, police forces, and Royal Gendarmerie units at all levels, to continue implementing the Safe Village-Commune-Sangkat Policy effectively.
He reiterated the need to maintain stringent measures to prevent, suppress, and combat crimes, especially those related to drug offences, gang activities, and all forms of illegal gambling.
