(Phnom Penh): Cambodia will officially ban all prize-based promotions for alcoholic and beverage products starting 1 October 2026, under a new government directive aimed at strengthening industry regulation and ensuring fair competition.

The measure was announced in a letter signed by Minister of Economy and Finance Aun Pornmoniroth. The decision follows guidance from Prime Minister Hun Manet.

Under the new rules, companies will no longer be allowed to offer prizes through can tabs, bottle caps, scratch cards, or similar promotional methods commonly used for beer, energy drinks, and other beverages.

The government stated that all prize promotions tied to sugary and non-alcoholic drinks, especially energy drinks, must end by the close of the third quarter of 2026. Beginning 1 October 2026, businesses will be prohibited from producing, importing, ordering, or distributing packaging linked to reward campaigns.

The same restrictions will apply to alcoholic products, with authorities enforcing a complete ban on all promotional prize schemes under the same timeline.

The policy is intended to improve oversight of Cambodia’s beverage industry while creating a more transparent and equitable business environment for all market participants.
