(Sihanoukville): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet praised Japan’s longstanding partnership in the development of the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, speaking on Friday (May 1) during a ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of Japan’s cooperation with Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.
“Japan has played a foremost role in developing the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port,” he said, adding that expanding logistics and industrial port capacity is a key part of his vision for Preah Sihanouk Province.
He added that port development requires long-term planning and strategic design to ensure efficiency and functionality, rather than focusing solely on physical construction.
Meanwhile, the prime minister also highlighted Cambodia’s continued cooperation with Japan in two priority areas: port infrastructure development and logistics sector expansion, both seen as critical to national economic growth.
Looking ahead, the prime minister pointed to a long-term vision extending to 2050, aimed at strengthening infrastructure and logistics systems to support sustainable development.
On the occasion, the prime minister expressed profound gratitude to the Government and the people of Japan, as well as to the Japan International Cooperation Agency, for their extensive support across infrastructure, transportation, environmental systems, human resource development, and opportunities for Cambodian workers in Japan.
