(Sihanoukville): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed that delinquent youth will not be sent into combat, but instead assigned to support roles such as construction and infrastructure work in frontline areas.
Speaking on Friday (May 1) during International Workers’ Day celebrations, Samdech Thipadei clarified that these individuals will not carry weapons or take part in fighting. Their involvement aims to promote discipline, responsibility, and awareness of the sacrifices made by the armed forces.
The prime minister instructed relevant officials to review existing laws to enable such programs, emphasizing that no new legislation is required. He added that detainees should engage in productive activities, such as farming or construction, rather than remain idle.
The initiative is intended to reform youth behaviour, strengthen national awareness, and connect them with the value of service to the country.
