(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn had a telephone conversation with Maria Theresa P. Lazaro, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines, on Thursday morning (Apr. 30).
Minister Prak Sokhonn expressed deep appreciation for the Philippines' good offices, as the current Chair of ASEAN, in facilitating dialogues among ASEAN Member States to seek a lasting and peaceful resolution to the current border situation between Cambodia and Thailand.
Both ministers exchanged views on strengthening ASEAN's unity, centrality, and contribution to peace and stability in the region.
Secretary Lazaro reaffirmed the Philippines' commitment to its role as lead coordinator of the ASEAN Observer Team in monitoring the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
She also offered the Philippines' good offices, in its capacity as ASEAN Chair, to provide a constructive platform for ASEAN Member States to work toward a durable and peaceful resolution of ongoing issues.
Both sides also reaffirmed their close bilateral cooperation and strong spirit of solidarity as members of the ASEAN family, and their shared commitment to continued engagement in support of regional peace and security.
