(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call and had a discussion with Kęstutis Budrys, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, at the Peace Palace on Friday (Apr. 24).
During the meeting, Minister Budrys expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by Cambodia. He highlighted that this inaugural official visit represents a significant milestone in enhancing friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
The minister emphasized the substantial potential for expanding bilateral relations and cooperation, which both countries are well-positioned to develop further.
In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet extended a warm welcome to Minister Budrys and his delegation, recognizing the visit as an important impetus to bolster bilateral relations and expand collaborative efforts that would benefit both peoples.
The discussions encompassed key areas of cooperation, including economic development, trade and investment, agriculture and agro-industry, tourism, digital transformation, education and training, and fostering stronger connections between the private sectors of both countries.
Additionally, both parties identified promising opportunities for cooperation in the energy sector to further advance its development. Minister Budrys shared Lithuania's expertise and experience in establishing an independent and advanced energy sector.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, in turn, outlined the Royal Government's priorities and policies on energy development, noting that Cambodia currently uses 62 per cent clean energy and aims to reach 70 per cent by 2030.
He underscored the government's commitment to promoting robust, sustainable growth in the energy sector. He highlighted the significant potential for enhancing Cambodia-Lithuania collaboration in this field.
Both leaders also discussed regional and global issues, reinforcing their mutual respect for international law, the United Nations Charter, and the principles of peaceful dispute resolution and non-violence.
In conclusion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet reiterated Cambodia's steadfast commitment to upholding and respecting the UN Charter and the ASEAN Charter, and to resolving disputes peacefully in accordance with international law, a stance closely mirrored by the Republic of Lithuania.
