(Phnom Penh): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s firm support for Cambodia’s development during a courtesy call on Acting Head of State Hun Sen at the Senate’s Solidarity Palace on Thursday (Apr. 23).

According to Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith, Foreign Minister Wang Yi underscored China’s continued commitment to advancing a shared future with Cambodia, built on longstanding cooperation and mutual interests.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed Wang Yi as a longtime friend of Cambodia and highlighted the recent Cambodia–China “2+2” Strategic Dialogue as a clear sign of the enduring and resilient partnership between the two countries, despite global uncertainties.

The Chinese foreign minister conveyed greetings from President Xi Jinping and reaffirmed Beijing’s support for Cambodia, including its concern for the well-being of Cambodia’s king. He also acknowledged Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s key role in strengthening bilateral ties and described the relationship as an “ironclad friendship” grounded in practical cooperation.

Wang Yi highlighted the positive outcomes of the Cambodia–China “2+2” Strategic Dialogue, noting that discussions between the foreign and defence ministers further strengthened bilateral ties.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed the remarks and conveyed his greetings to President Xi Jinping.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo thanked China for its longstanding support, particularly in infrastructure development, which has contributed significantly to Cambodia’s economic growth. He also underlined Cambodia’s focus on strengthening economic resilience as a priority in bilateral cooperation.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in turn, praised Cambodia’s rapid development and visible progress, reaffirming China’s commitment to supporting the country’s continued growth under their shared vision for the future.
