(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Defence Minister Tea Seiha said China has expressed support for Cambodia’s military modernisation, following the inaugural “2+2” Strategic Dialogue held on 22 April 2026 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Phnom Penh.

The Chinese delegation, led by Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defence Minister Dong Jun, backed efforts to strengthen Cambodia’s defence capabilities across maritime, land, and air domains.

Following the meeting, Minister Tea Seiha said the visit of the two Chinese dignitaries would further reinforce high-level strategic ties, deepen political trust, and advance the Cambodia–China comprehensive strategic partnership and an “ironclad friendship.” He also underscored ongoing efforts to build an all-weather Cambodia–China community with a shared future in the new era.

He reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to expanding cooperation with China across all sectors while maintaining its adherence to the One-China policy.

Cambodia and China agreed to establish the “2+2” Strategic Dialogue during the state visit of President Xi Jinping to Cambodia in April last year, with a view to promoting high-level strategic communication, deepening mutual political and security trust, and the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. This new mechanism will serve as a key platform for exchanging views on regional and international issues of common interest.
