(Phnom Penh): At the invitation of Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Cambodian Defence Minister Tea Seiha, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun will co-chair the First Meeting of the "2+2" Strategic Dialogue Mechanism between the foreign and defence ministers of the two countries, on 22 April 2026 in Phnom Penh, according to a press release seen by Fresh News on Tuesday (Apr. 21).

Cambodia and China agreed to establish this dialogue during the state visit of President Xi Jinping to Cambodia in April last year, with a view to promoting high-level strategic communication, deepening mutual political and security trust, and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. This new mechanism will serve as a key platform for exchanging views on regional and international issues of common interest.

During their stay in Phnom Penh, the two visiting Chinese dignitaries will also pay separate courtesy calls on Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State and President of the Senate, and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Following the "2+2" Dialogue, Chinese Minister Wang Yi will also pay an official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia on 23 April 2026. He will hold in-depth discussions with Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn on advancing the implementation of existing cooperation frameworks and on contributing to peace, security, stability, and development within and beyond the region.
