(Beijing): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Cambodian Senate President, personally accompanied King Norodom Sihamoni to the operating room on Monday morning (Apr. 20) at a hospital in Beijing, alongside his two sons.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Samdech Techo confirmed that the surgery, conducted by Chinese doctors, was successful. The king has regained consciousness following anaesthesia and is currently under close medical observation as doctors monitor his post-operative recovery.

Samdech Techo added that King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk expressed their profound thanks to monks and citizens for their prayers and well wishes.

Samdech Techo also extended his thanks to Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Government of China for their care and support, as well as to the medical team for ensuring the procedure was carried out safely.

In his message, Samdech Techo, along with Hun Manet and Hun Many, arrived in Beijing on April 17 to support the king and queen mother during this period, stressing that the king’s health is the health of the nation.

If King Sihamoni’s condition continues to improve, Samdech Techo Hun Sen is expected to return to Cambodia on April 22.
