(Phnom Penh): The Ministry of Environment has issued a brief circulation reminding the public that selling, buying, cutting, or transporting trees from protected areas, including trees within community areas located inside protected zones, wildlife sanctuaries, and national parks, is illegal and punishable by law.

The notice follows recent enforcement actions in which four individuals were arrested and detained in connection with illegal tree-related activities, underscoring the government’s firm stance on forest protection.

The ministry stressed that all such activities without authorization violate environmental regulations and may result in jail terms.

Officials urged citizens to comply with the law and report any illegal activities, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting Cambodia’s forests and biodiversity.
