(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed sincere appreciation to all stakeholders for ensuring that this year’s Khmer New Year celebrations were joyful, safe, and culturally meaningful.
In a message issued on Friday (Apr. 17), the prime minister highlighted the smooth nationwide celebrations, noting that Cambodians were able to fully embrace traditional customs through games, classical dances, and family gatherings at homes, pagodas, and public venues.
He thanked municipal and provincial authorities, ministries, institutions, armed forces, and all working groups for their strong coordination in maintaining safety and festive spirit for both citizens and visitors.
Special recognition was given to the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia, volunteers, sanitation workers, drivers, and organising teams behind the Nokor Sangkranta events in Phnom Penh and across the country. Their contributions helped promote cultural heritage, strengthen national identity, and foster unity.
The prime minister also commended the bravery of soldiers safeguarding national territorial integrity and acknowledged the resilience of displaced citizens currently in temporary government-supported accommodations.
As the holiday concludes, he urged citizens returning to work to prioritise safety and follow traffic laws. He added that Phnom Penh’s municipal bus service will continue operating free of charge to ease travel costs and enhance public safety.
