(Takeo): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed optimism that Thailand’s newly formed government will help advance ongoing border negotiations between the two countries.

Speaking on Saturday (Apr. 11) during the groundbreaking ceremony for Section II of the Funan Techo Canal in Takeo province, the premier underlined the importance of activating the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) to accelerate discussions and demarcation efforts.

He noted that both sides remain committed to resolving border issues peacefully through existing frameworks and agreements, in line with the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Statement, which calls for respect for internationally recognised borders.

The premier added that the JBC has been tasked with advancing technical work based on existing treaties to support long-term stability and cooperation.

Expressing confidence in gradual progress, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underscored that sustained commitment from both countries can lead to a comprehensive resolution.

Cambodia has consistently sought engagement through the JBC, including a recent proposal to hold a special meeting in Siem Reap from 17–22 April 2026. However, previous requests were deferred as Thailand finalised the formation of its new JBC team.
