(Takeo): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed that bilateral negotiations with Thailand remain a primary avenue for resolving the ongoing border dispute and preventing further violence.
The premier spoke on Saturday (Apr. 11) during a groundbreaking for the construction of the section II of the Funan Techo Canal in Takeo province.
The prime minister emphasised Cambodia’s commitment to peaceful, law-based solutions grounded in treaties and international conventions. He noted that while Cambodia remains open to regional and international mechanisms, direct bilateral talks are prioritised due to their potential for faster and more practical outcomes.
“At present, we prioritise diplomatic and legal solutions, with bilateral negotiations as the primary option,” he said, emphasising the need for restraint and responsible action to avoid escalation.
He added that Cambodia is willing to support any peaceful solution that protects national sovereignty and territorial integrity, while addressing public concerns over the situation.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also acknowledged Thailand’s cooperation over the past two decades, highlighting progress in border demarcation, including the completion of 43 out of 74 border markers.
