(Takeo): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet conveyed his heartfelt sympathy for the displaced citizens who have lost their homes due to conflict, reaffirming the government’s commitment to provide immediate and long-term support.
The premier spoke on Saturday (Apr. 11) during a groundbreaking for the construction of the section II of the Funan Techo Canal.
He acknowledged that newly built homes cannot replace those lost after years of effort, but stressed that the government is acting swiftly through a structured three-phase response:
- Phase 1: Emergency evacuation from danger zones, with provision of temporary shelter, clean water, and food.
- Phase 2: Improved living conditions through upgraded tents, better ventilation, and sanitation facilities.
- Phase 3: Long-term recovery, including the construction of permanent housing and stable resettlement.
According to Samdech Thipadei, the government is accelerating the construction of thousands of homes to enable displaced families to resettle before the Khmer New Year. For those unable to return home immediately, he assured continued support and close attention to their needs.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet also paid tribute to soldiers and security personnel who lost their lives defending national sovereignty, while expressing gratitude to the armed forces and citizens for their efforts in supporting affected communities.
